Santa Barbara County encompasses almost 3,000 square miles of beautiful California coastline and communities. City and county alike are amazingly rich in their fascinating history, arts, museums, entertainment and superb dining, just about any style of meal you might be looking for.
Santa Barbara is famous around the world for its loyalty to the architectural aesthetics of the missions built throughout California by the Spanish in 18th and 19th centuries. But, the county isn't all mission-style, adobe and red-tile roofs. A brief 30-minute drive north is the Danish city of Solvang, with it's Scandinavian architecture, windmills, and timbered Tudor facades. In the hills and mountains above and around Solvang is the county's charming wine country and the Santa Ynez and Santa Maria Valleys.
Santa Barbara hosts festivals celebrating everything from strawberries and the arts to wine and whales, with an abundance of options for dining, shopping, sports, sightseeing and entertainment.
Driving north on the beautiful coastline of the Pacific Ocean, up Highway 101 from the Los Angeles area, it's only about1-1/2 hours to Santa Barbara, from San Diego about 2-1/2 hours. Santa Barbara and its surrounding areas are not to be missed.
